10,000 Etihad Miles

This one won’t matter to some of you, I know. But for all the clever nerds who took advantage of the easy 20,000 miles last year

You can grab 10,000 more Etihad miles here. Unfortunately, this one requires you to take a flight this year. Still a nice amount of miles if you already have a trip planned.

End Of Week Triple

  • Just got an email offering an easy 400 United miles here. If the link works, it’s pretty simple. Join e-miles, activate the account, and collect.
  • I also got a killer offer in the mail from Hyatt recently.  Stay in the Hyatt Regency Maui for 6 days/5 nights and receive 10,000 Hyatt points. The price is just $499. If you show up in their system, you might actually get it for $299. Limited dates, and you have to go to a 90-minute timeshare presentation. Call 1-800-665-8455 if you want to do it or get more information. Killer deal, in my not-so-humble opinion.
  • There’s a new 2% cashback option from Citibank. The Double Cash card is fine for people who want an easy way to earn a little cash back. Of course, if spending heavily in specific categories, there are definitely better options.

The Barclays Dilemma

I keep hearing from people who have stopped getting approved for Barclays credit cards. What used to be an “automatic” is now a “not a chance.”  Well, my friends, I also had this situation pop up last year. It has since passed, but it’s pretty common. I have one piece of advice…

Make sure you show some spend to Barclays. They really, really, really like to see that you’re putting money on those cards. If you’re getting US Airways cards, putting a buck on them, and throwing ’em in a drawer…well, you’re probably going to get denied by these guys for a little while.

**Sorry for the delay in this post showing up. As always, I post every weekday. Just a little case of “I forgot to click publish” this time.**

Nerd Notes

  • A note on charity – If you’re one of the people saying “stop the ice bucket challenges,” I have 2 good words to describe you….bad human. Don’t do it if you don’t want to, but why would you ask people to stop something helpful? I’ve been nominated a few times, and my absolute favorite of those was from my friend Richard here.
  • A note on buying miles/points – It’s just not my style. But different strokes for different folks. Bonuses for purchasing Alaska and British miles are available.
  • A note on chatter – Reader Jeremy sent me a very interesting idea…a weekly podcast where I could answer questions and chat about miles/points for 10 minutes or so. I hadn’t thought of it before, but I’m definitely going to consider the suggestion. Much like me, Jeremy isn’t too impressed by most bloggers. And, also like me, he realizes my personality is more suited for this than the usual pack of dorks. I’m considering the podcast idea. Let me know if you guys would be interested in something like this.
  • A note on being less dumb – There are a few things you need to learn as an adult. Otherwise, you risk looking like an idiot. For example, adults should know the differences between your/you’re and lose/loose. I actually saw someone write, “your a looser” as a comment today. That could be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read.
