Last Uber Post For A While

Dear Uber:

I’ve loved you for such a long time. You burst into my life as the bright, shining star you are. Nobody was as beautiful. I bragged to all my friends about you. Never a bad word. You know that, right? Let’s be honest about something, Uber…taxis have always been terrible. But, genius that you are…you realized it, came up with a better way of doing things, and changed the world of travel. You brought black car service to the masses. It was so damn clever. I will always respect you for that.

Sadly, in this crazy life of ours, things change quickly. The cracks show up little by little, but eventually you just can’t ignore them anymore. Here’s the thing, Uber…I love almost everything about you. Your app is amazing, your drivers are friendly, the cars are clean, and I never have to pull out my wallet. All incredible traits. But enough is enough. I can no longer escape one glaring fact – every Uber ride I’ve taken lately has included a driver using his cell phone.

Yuck.

Looking at phones, texting, making calls, answering calls…I’ve seen it all from you. Sometimes even on the freeway while going 70 miles per hour. You have no idea how much this breaks my heart. More than anything, you should be concerned with my well-being. But, Uber, I just don’t feel safe anymore. You put me in these cars and I depend on the drivers to take care of me. Well, they’ve dropped the ball. And so have you. My little sister’s best friend in law school is a vegetable because of someone texting while driving. I can deal with a lot, but this isn’t something I can handle.

It’s not you, it’s me. Isn’t that what people say when they break up? Well, Uber, this one is all you. I’m falling out of love because of YOU. After thinking about it for a while, I realized what I need. I’m going to take a break for now.  I’m not going to brag to my friends about you for a while. If you change your ways, I’m willing to give you another chance. Ok? I’ll keep my eyes and ears open.  I’ll listen to the rumors. You’re younger than me, so maybe this was just a stage you needed to grow out of. Or maybe you’ve changed for good. I guess we’ll find out soon.

Quit with the bullshit.

Sincerely,

MileNerd
