Midweek Triple

  • There’s a new Southwest sale. In other news, water is wet.
  • Last-minute Kimpton deals for lovers of the brand whose IHG points keep devaluing.
  • Increased bonus (60,000 points) on the Lufthansa card. Good offer if Barclays doesn’t hate you.

PointBreaks

Talked expiration drama yesterday, so I wasn’t able to post the new IHG PointBreaks list.

How is it? Well, I wouldn’t exactly call it “bad.” It’s certainly not in the epic disaster category of things like Little Caesar’s pizza or Ray Liotta’s plastic surgery.

It’s just kind of…limited.

And I think that’s probably where it will stay going forward. PointBreaks will most likely continue to have very limited appeal. Sure, it’s a great value for the people who can take advantage of the list. The problem is that not many people can do that. I’d love to see more properties pop up. But I won’t hold my breath.

Expiration Issues

I’ve obviously been a huge fan of AwardWallet for a long time.

But it might be time to change my opinion.

I first heard from reader Mark (who has issues with Southwest costing him 50,000 points).

And then I heard from others who believe AwardWallet dropped the ball recently.

Maybe it’s a strange coincidence?

Maybe not.

As far as I know, we all depend on email reminders when points are going to expire.

For years, that’s been a big part of the rock-solid AwardWallet experience.

The experience suddenly seems less dependable.

Multiple readers lost points last week…

All said the same thing…

No reminder email.

No notice of the upcoming expiration.

I’m not sure what changed, but this feels like a trend.

I would HIGHLY recommend looking at expiration dates for your accounts today.

At minimum, check Southwest and Hawaiian Airlines.

New Southwest Card

There’s a new Southwest card from Chase and I don’t think it will mean that much (for most of us)

The fee is higher (even though there is an annual travel credit) and, more importantly, it looks like the usual Chase limitations are in place for getting approved. If I’m wrong about the latter, please let me know…I’ll edit this post (and my opinion). Have a great weekend, nerds!

Hyatt Find

Hyatt has rolled out a new website to redeem points.

It must have been an intense process.

Draining.

Because, other than exhaustion, I can’t see why they’d name it…

Find.

That’s really the best they could come up with?

I probably witnessed more creativity from my sandwich artist at Subway yesterday.

Anyway, the Find website is Hyatt’s entry into the points-for-experiences game.

Not seeing much value there at the moment, but I’ll keep my eye on it.
