Small Business Saturday Is Great Again

After a down year, we’re back in business! Highlights?

  • All Amex cards including Bluebird and Serve work this time.
  • Each card gets three $10 credits. That’s a free $30 for every American Express card.

If you’re new to this, it’s pretty simple. Small Business Saturday is free money day. You register your card on November 16th. Then, on the 29th, it’s time to have fun. You’ll swipe every Amex card you have 3 times for $10 per swipe. Those charges won’t cost a cent. As always, if you have a pile of American Express cards, it’s going to be a great day. Full terms are here.

Lifestyles Of The Cheap And Flexible

I’ve done a few things in my day, but flying private isn’t one of them. Never been close, actually. My most intimate experience with a private jet was the time I glared angrily at a jerk who was whining about “problems with his plane.” Anyway, when you hear something over and over…it eventually makes an impact. I’ve gotten emails about this company for a while (and got 2 more yesterday), so I finally decided to click the link. Keep in mind, I hate recommending anything I haven’t experienced myself. That being said, this really is a killer deal. And every review I’ve gotten from you guys has been a very strong thumbs-up for them. So, here’s the deal…

JetSuite offers last-minute, one-way private jet fares. The routes change all the time, and are for travel the same/following day. That’s the reason you get such special pricing…you need to fly immediately. An example for travel today is Oakland, CA to Scottsdale, AZ. The price for that trip is  $536.43. Yeah, for the plane. So, if it’s 2 of you, it’s a private flight for under $300 each. Not too shabby.

Cards I Missed

I always get a bunch of emails after the Top 25 comes out. This usually leads to a “cards I missed” post within a few days. Yup, this is that post. But not too shabby this time. Just a few misses, and most of those were with cashback cards.

  • The American Express Fidelity Investments card is now offering 5,000 points (worth $50) for spending $500. This is a 2% cashback card, and you do need a Fidelity account to get started. Basic, no-minimum accounts work fine.
  • Another Amex cashback card (SimplyCash) is offering $250 for spending $5,000 in 6 months. Highlights include 5% at office stores and 3% at your selected category.
  • The BB&T Spectrum card is yet another interesting cashback option. Pretty limited states and I don’t have much experience with this bank.
  • I also “missed” Citibank’s unimpressive Expedia cards. Choose from 25,000 craptastic Expedia+ points (plus gold status) or 15,000 points with silver status. Yawn. Details are at the links. In case it wasn’t obvious, I don’t like Expedia points.

Corrections

Your buddy MileNerd sometimes experiences a troubling medical condition. I believe professionals refer to it as a case of  the “brain farts.” Yeah, my post yesterday should have said Lufthansa not Best Western. Duh. Thanks to many of you for letting me know. Also, thanks to reader Rahul for teaching me something yesterday. Looks like the incredible Hyatt Diamond Challenge might be a little less incredible these days. I always recommend Hilton Gold as the easiest status to “match” with. Well, apparently, that option might be gone. According to Rahul, if you want a shortcut to Hyatt Diamond status, you’ll need to have one of the following:

  • Starwood Platinum
  • IHG Platinum
  • Marriott Gold or Platinum
  • Hilton VIP or Diamond VIP

Where is Hilton Gold, you ask? And what the hell is Hilton VIP? If I had to guess, I’d say “Hilton VIP” is probably a typo for “Hilton Gold VIP.” But, then again, it was a brain farty kind of day for me. Hoping for more clarity tomorrow.
