Lyft

Many of you have been deeply touched by cancer in your lives.

Sadly, so have I.

Lyft is now offering free rides to patients (to and from treatments) in 10 cities including LA, Philadelphia, Houston, Miami, Las Vegas, Cincinnati, Denver, St. Louis, and Atlanta.

I have nothing sarcastic to say here. I really just think this is awesome and want to leave it at that. Have a great weekend, nerds!

IHG And Hertz Promos

You can register for the IHG summer promo here. Or you can get a deal on points + cash stays. And, if neither sounds good, don’t forget the transfer bonus to United is still available.

On a more impressive note…

A few of you have asked me about increased Hertz bonus emails. Those were already good, but if they contacted you and offered 1,100 points for a non-airport rental…that’s one of the best promos you’ll ever see from a rental car company. Strongly consider taking advantage of it.

Midweek Triple

  • If you don’t have a ShopRunner account yet, get one here. It’s free and helpful.
  • Another good Delta deal (even if that sounds like an oxymoron) to save you miles.
  • This feels strangely familiar. Almost as if Alaska and Southwest sales have existed before this moment.

Settlement Stuff

Seems like we’ve been seeing settlements from all of our “buddies” over the last few months. Other than points/cash from British the other day, there have been settlements announced from American, SouthwestWells Fargo, and more. Plus a few that won’t impact us quite as directly (Citibank and others).

I think it’s smart to keep an eye on settlement stuff. There are websites dedicated to the subject (like this or this one). You never know what might come in. Apparently, I’m getting a few hundred bucks from this one because of some phone calls I never noticed. Most are worth far less…but it’s usually worth paying attention to letters from lawyers.

Flyertalk Keeps Chugging Along

Flyertalk is far from the friendliest place on earth, but it has been a useful tool for a loooong time. I can’t remember a single week passing by without people sending me links to posts there. And, as miles become more of a pain in the ass, the most popular Flyertalk forum right now seems to be Premium Fare Deals.  Here are some recent examples of links readers have sent from there:

  • Cape Town to Dubai in Business Class for under $1000.
  • Business Class to China for under $1500.
  • Amsterdam to New York in Upper Class cabin on Virgin Atlantic.

Other than the Premium Fare Deals forum, it seems like the other reader favorites are:

Personally, I don’t have the time to navigate the deep, dark reaches of Flyertalk very often. The only thread I tend to visit anymore is this one to get an idea of what cars to expect at specific National aisles.  But Flyeralk is still very much a popular resource. If I missed one of the most-used forums there, let me know and I’ll write a follow-up post at some point.
