No More Plastiq Posts

This is far from an exact science.

Sometimes I avoid posting too much about companies that kind of suck (see: Uber’s treatment of drivers and their CEO with issues).

Other times I post too often about an unspectacular company because I really respect the people there (see: Rocketmiles and their overly high prices).

It’s just not an exact science when it comes to in-between deals.

All anyone can do with a personal blog is follow their own radar. For me, integrity is a big one. You guys know that. I respond best to people who are real (and have very little patience for bullshit artists). No matter what it is, just be upfront and honest. I wouldn’t even criticize a sellout blogger if he was direct and said, “I’m in the business of selling credit card links more than helping people. I’ll find any way possible to sell a credit card.” I’d actually respect a guy for being that honest about what he’s doing.

My point is this…

Plastiq dropped the ball one too many times. And they just weren’t accountable enough for my taste. I heard from another reader who made a payment that didn’t arrive at its destination (not the first time we’ve heard a story like this).

Mistakes happen but Plastiq tried to pass on the blame. Long story short…I don’t like it and I’m not comfortable posting their promos anymore. If you continue to use them, it won’t be with my recommendation.

P.S. I’m old. If I forget about this in a few months, someone please remind me.

Last Chance For Best Bonus

Looking back, it’s hard to remember a week going by without someone asking (in these exact words), “What credit card do you think I should get?”

I rarely ever reply with one specific card. But that changed when Chase started offering 100,000 points for the Sapphire Reserve card. It was impossible to ignore the best bonus opportunity around. The one big catch is that it wasn’t a possibility for most of us. If you’ve been playing this game for some time and opened 5 or more cards in the last 24 months…it just ain’t going to happen.

So why this post? Well, if you’re new to this and haven’t started burning through card applications yet…it’s time to get this one. Head to a Chase branch in the next couple of days. Don’t be “too busy” for this one. If you wait until next week, it will probably be too late. Applying online? That won’t work because the bonus is already down to 50,000 points for that method.

Newbies, this post was all for you. Obviously, I highly recommend getting this card right now. I never write about card bonuses expiring like this but I made an exception for this one.

Uber Credit For Hotel Stays

Thanks to reader Tony for sharing this one. Apparently you can get Uber credit for stays with Rocketmiles now. This is probably the longest I’ve ever gone without writing about either of these 2 companies. As always, I like the people at Rocketmiles but wish they would charge a little less so their deals would stand out more.

Marriott Travel For Life Contest

I’m picky about posting contests these days, but this one from Marriott is worth sharing. Even though 3.75 million points aren’t enough to “travel for life” as they say, it’s definitely a nice jackpot. If you want to nerd out with 60 entries, check out the rules for email and snail mail options.
