Thursdeals

  • Spend 30 bucks for a package of 20 Uber rides in September – Washington DC, Boston, or Miami. Boston costs $10 more.
  • Another very easy 25 points from Hertz. Takes 10 seconds but won’t extend your expiration date.
  • A few of you reached out yesterday with success getting the Sapphire Reserve card by going to Case branches and asking if preapproved. Reader Matt also mentioned his banker directing him to a JP Morgan Reserve card with the same 100,000-point bonus. If you can somehow manage to get both, I’d say 200,000 points is worth a drive to the bank.

Tuesday Triple

  • Play this instant win game from Starwood. And then play again every day for the next 3 weeks.
  • Bonus American miles for 3-day car rentals here.
  • I’ve never gotten as many messages about a credit card as I did yesterday. Yes, the Chase Sapphire Reserve is the now the best current signup offer. But no, it’s not some kind of new revolution. Non-noobs fondly remember plenty of 6-figure bonuses. Wasn’t long ago that they were the norm. And those were much easier to get. Looks like it might be worth seeing if you can get targeted in-branch with this one.  Especially if you have a bunch of applications in the last 24 months. Remember to balance out the huge annual fee by taking advantage of the travel credit this year and next.

United Miles For Mercedes Shoppers

Thanks to reader Nate for sending this one. If you have status or a credit card with United, you could be looking at 50,000 miles…

If you’re shopping for a car…

And if that car is a Mercedes.

FlexPerks Olympic Promo

I mentioned this as the Olympics were starting, but there’s a much clearer idea what the bonus will be now. With 3 days left, we’re looking at well over 30,000 extra points in addition to the normal 20,000. In case you’re not familiar with FlexPoints, click here and look at Air Travel Rewards. Great currency to have. Pretty dumb to wait more than 2 weeks (when the promo ends) if you’re thinking about this card. Not Ryan Lochte dumb but it’s a deal not offered since the last Olympics. The bonus will be dropping right back to 20,000 after September 3rd. Have a great weekend, nerds!

Edit: Oh, cruel irony. It appears the only thing dumber than Lochte is…well, me. Apparently I’m the one Indian guy who can’t do math. Thanks to reader Chris for doing some calculations. So far, it actually looks like around 12,000 bonus points in addition to the regular 20,000. Still a great time to get this card but, yeah, I’m a dumbass.
