What the hell is/are Gol Smiles? Well, reader Rod sent a very long and interesting email educating me more about this Brazilian airline. Looks like Gol Smiles could be very valuable this week.

Use Google Chrome and translate this page. Here’s the summary:

  • The miles you buy will be tripled (if you buy them by Friday).
  • You can buy up to 40,000. So if you pay for 40,000, you end up with 120,000.
  • You can use these miles on partner flights (like Delta).
  • The bonus miles expire in 6 months if you don’t use them. So these aren’t for hoarding.
  • The numbers look awesome. 120,000 miles will cost just over $900. To give you an idea of the value, one-way flights to Hawaii are only 12,500 miles. Some big bargains here.

Another Increased Card Bonus

The Hilton Surpass card from American Express is now worth 85,000 points. The normal bonus is 60,000 and it has gone as high as 80,000. As always, Hilton points aren’t the most valuable currency around.
