Reconsideration

I recently applied for 7 credit cards and was instantly approved for 4 of them. Yup, denied for 3. That’s actually pretty good. Even with a credit score near 800…after a while, instant approval is far from a lock. With a little work (picking up the phone), you can usually turn decisions around. In this case, I made 3 calls and got all of my applications approved. I’ve talked about reconsideration phone numbers in the past, but they seem to change a lot. These are the numbers I’ve had luck with lately. The one for Bank Of America is actually the Spanish line, but it worked out well! As always, you get the best results by not being shy and asking for what you want.

Bank of America: 866-865-7843

Citibank: 800-695-5171

Amex: 877-399-3083

Chase: 888-245-0625

Barclays: 866-408-4064

Busy Card Week

A bunch of changed and improved credit card offers in the last few days…

  • Chase Ink Plus is up to 60,000 points. Obviously, a pretty strong offer.
  • Ink Bold matched the same offer. Again, it’s hard to be a hater on this one.
  • Lufthansa bumped up to their come-and-go 50,000-mile offer. Not bad.
  • US Air added a different offer. Not necessarily better, but definitely not bad.
  • One Ritz Carlton card offer added Platinum status if you spend…wait for it…$75,000. Yeah, I don’t think so.
  • Wells Fargo introduced a pretty decent 40,000-point Propel card.

Have a great weekend…MileNerd out!

25 Free AwardWallet Codes

Before I paste the codes, I want to run through a couple deals:

  • 30% transfer bonus from Amex Membership Rewards to Virgin Atlantic. A pretty good deal for some.
  • Free 1,500 Hilton points for getting an insurance quote. Yeah, I know…Hilton points. If they were a stock, you’d be feeling pretty broke right now.
  • Finally, if you’re not buying the $200 Visa gift cards from Staples.com, I’m confused. The only excuse that makes sense is not having a Chase Ink card. With the 6 cents per dollar from Swagbucks, you’re making a little money on the deal and could be RACKING UP the Ultimate Rewards points with your Ink. 5x from Staples, money from Swagbucks, and the ease of buying online. I’m a big fan of this one.

Yeah, it’s well on the way to becoming a monthly feature here on the MileNerd blog…AwardWallet codes are back! Just log into your account, click “Upgrade Using A Coupon” and apply a code. This will upgrade your account for 6 months. Please only take 1 of these each. I’ll edit the post at some point in the day when they’re all gone.

Return Of The Lufthansa Card

It’s back…again. The 50,000-mile offer from Lufthansa is here for the next couple months. Is it any good? Yeah, definitely. If you need something from Barclays (and already have the Arrival and US Airways cards) then it’s a solid option. And now for the comment of the day about the redesign. From Scott:

“Your new logo looks like a bedroom device to me. No offense.”

This is awkward.
